Creations
Handmade, rare, exceptional papers are at the heart of all my creations. Found and collected during my travels, trailing the paper trade across the globe, from papermakers to retailers, each paper is special in that it is linked to an encounter, with another person, another artist, another place, or another culture.
These treasured papers and the stories they carry are the source of my inspiration. Each leaf has its own personality, sometimes soft and warm, other times crisp and cool. Each sheet speaks its own language, translucent or opaque, sturdy or delicate. Whatever my intention, following a planned design or freely creating, I let the paper’s texture, weight and feel guide my hands, in a subtle dialogue between concrete and abstract, between matter and thought.
Creating for me is responsive and intuitive. It is my way of relating to the world, of processing my life experiences, by finding connection through gesture and seeking meaning through making.
Over the years I have lived in countries as varied as South Korea and Croatia, Pakistan, and France. Each place has left its imprint – visually, emotionally, spiritually. My art reflects this layered journey. With the strength and fragility of paper, it grapples with themes of movement and stillness, estrangement and belonging, uprootedness and growth – darkness and light. It is a search for the universal and invisible threads that connect us, and beyond, for a permanent core, for a transcendence to reach towards.
Drawing my inspiration from the beauty of nature, from the mood of a moment, the energy of an encounter, as well as from the colours, symbols and patterns of the cultures I live in, welcoming in the signs of the world to give meaning to mine, my paper works are an exploration of the richness of our humanity and an invitation to see the familiar anew.
